This post is a little premature, but I wanted to share my story anyway since I think it could be helpful to others.
This morning I received a message from a new company that I won a raffle for “Liking” their Facebook page. Typically, this would have just been a nice surprise and I would have gone on with the rest of my day, but today was different. The product was different.
One of the reasons I “Liked” this company on Facebook is because their products were new and unique, so I took the opportunity to email the CEO and tell him I’d like to explain the benefits to providing me with an exclusive right to sell his items on Amazon.
So, as of now, I have a call scheduled to speak with him tomorrow morning, with a real opportunity to become the exclusive seller on Amazon. Now, nothing may come of this, but I have no doubt that this is something that could benefit both of us…I just have to articulate that to him.
My point is that even when you’re trying to make money online, sometimes you have to be prepared to reach out to people and create your own success by developing strategic partnerships.
I don’t know what will happen tomorrow morning, but I’m optimistic and will follow up after the call to post what happened.
*** UPDATE 12/14/12 ***
I had the call with the manufactuer and I thought it went very well. I clearly defined all the benefits to him and provided him with a brief overview about myself, but we didn’t touch on terms of a deal at all. He concluded the conversation by asking that I send him a little more information about my experience as well as an outline of the structure I had in mind.
Even though I thought I did a great job explaining the benefits, I wasn’t too confident that I’d be able to convince him that I’m the right person to partner up with. After all, he just launched his product a month ago and some stranger is now asking to become the exclusive Amazon seller. In any event, I followed up with his email request later that day and tried to really drive home all the benefits to partnering up with me.
Well, I just received his reply and it looks like he’s not interested in moving forward at this time. I’m not sure what his plans are (maybe he’ll look for someone else to do it), but I’m happy I at least made the attempt.
Maybe next time!
